Identity Theft
Identity theft is an unfortunate reality. Below are some links to resources that will inform members who may be unaware of the risks of identity theft and provide suggestions of what to do in the event of identity theft.
The CMC Secretariat publishes the Consumer Identity Theft Checklist, located on the Office of Consumer Affairs, Consumer Measures Committee web site. This checklist covers topics such as Guard Your Personal Information, Guard Your Computer and its Information, Signs of ID Theft and What to Do in the Event of Identity Theft.
Students may be interested in the publication “Fraud, Recognize it. Report it. Stop it. Personal Information and Scams Protection: A Student Practical Guide”, designed by a student for students in partnership with the RCMP Commercial Crime Branch and the University of Ottawa. The student publication is located on the RCMP web site (also available in French).
